Meta Introduces Parental Supervision Tools for Instagram and VR

In December 2021, Instagram promised to add parental controls to keep teens private and safe on its platform after launching "Take a Break" to restrict access.

Instagram's new parenting tool will become part of the Family Center. With this tool, parents can see how much time their kids spend on Instagram and also set some daily limits.

They will also be able to see who their children follow or the ones that follow the children.

VR Parental Controls

Meta is also introducing the VR parental control tool, which will be available on Quest devices in May. They'll include a Quest headset unlock model to prevent teens from accessing VR content they're not suited for, starting April.

Instagram will also introduce a parental control panel with monitoring tools that will be linked to a child's profile, with the consent of the child and parent of course.

Instagram parental controls

Parents can find out if and when their children report someone on social media platforms. For now, parents must request control over the use of their children, who are entitled to such requests. And it is they who can initiate surveillance.

However, starting in June, parents should also be allowed to start parenting. Apart from that, more Instagram parenting features are coming soon.

Parental supervision tools are currently available in the US and are said to eventually reach other places in the coming months.
