Krafton and Solana are going to make blockchain-based games |
Krafton recently communicated an official blog post announcing its partnership with Solana Labs. The company says the latter will help the development and commercialization of blockchain-based games and services via a decentralized blockchain.
Solana is a public blockchain platform with smart contract features. Solana claims to offer faster transaction times and lower fees than its main competitor Ethereum. In this way, the company will support Krafton in the development of the next generation of products for the Metaverse and strengthen its market position.
Krafton formerly known as Bluehole is a South Korean company that develops and distributes video games based in Bundang-gu, Seongnam. Founded by Chang Byung-gyu in Seoul in March 2007, the company is known for having developed TERA, PUBG: Battlegrounds and NEW STATE MOBILE.
“As one of the best global high-performance blockchains with strength in high speed and low fees, Solana represents the best of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and its technologies. Through this cooperation, KRAFTON will acquire the insight needed to accelerate its investment in and output of blockchain-based experiences,” the lead executive of Web 3.0 Roundtable at Krafton, Hyungchul Park, said in a statement.
According to The Verge, the main goal of the partnership now is to increase Krafton's market share amid falling share prices.
That's why the company even made its popular PUBG title free to play last year. And with its recent partnership with Solana Labs, the Korean giant is now aiming to strengthen its market position by developing the title “Play to Win” using blockchain technology.
It's unclear whether Krafton will integrate blockchain technology into existing titles in preparation for the Metaverse. But even if this is the case, it will take time for blockchain-based games and services to find their way into the commercial market.
